Before you add catch-up work this weekend...

Hey Reader, Friday has a sneaky way of making us look at everything we didnât finish. The math lesson that moved to next week. The science activity you meant to do. The book nobody opened. The thing you planned on Monday when you had absolutely no idea what Wednesday was going to throw at you. đ Sometimes something really does need to be moved, finished, or revisited. But before you respond to an unfinished plan by adding a pile of catch-up work, check the evidence from the whole week. What did your kids talk about? What did they read because they wanted information? What did they build, make, fix, organize, plan, or help with? What problems did they solve? What questions did they ask? What did they practice during play, family life, errands, conversations, hobbies, or time spent together? Again, youâre not trying to convince yourself that every minute was educational. Youâre trying to make your decision using the whole picture. Then ask: Is there an actual need here that deserves our attention? Or am I trying to make the week look more like school because I didnât count the learning that happened somewhere else? Those are two very different reasons to add something. One comes from evidence. The other often comes from that uncomfortable little voice saying a successful homeschool week should have more completed pages to show for it. Youâre allowed to respond when something genuinely needs attention. Youâre also allowed to say, âThis week looked different than I planned, and there was still meaningful learning here.â That isnât lowering your standards. Itâs understanding your homeschool well enough to make the next decision based on your actual kids and family. And if you want ready-to-use experiences for days when youâd like a little more direction without having to invent everything yourself, thatâs what the Busy Bees Holiday Hub is designed to provide. â[BUSY BEES HOLIDAY HUB LINK]â Remember, you donât need to add something just to prove this week counted. P.S. Christyâs Corner: Before you decide what needs to happen next week, finish this sentence: One thing I almost didnât count this week was ________. Already a Hub member? Buzz in and grab something easy for next week.
