Different ages, different grades - same topic
|
Hey Reader, I get a lot of crazy pushback on TikTok when I post about using the same topic for all your children.
After I remind myself that even the Grand Canyon gets one-star reviews, I continue to post what I believe. You can explore the same topic without doing the same lesson. Your children can share an experience without having identical roles in it. Suppose youâre learning about animal homes. One child might draw a burrow. Another might figure out how an entrance could be protected. A younger sibling might point out something they noticed about the bird nest outside. Different contributions, same shared idea: How does a home meet an animalâs needs? You donât need a separate project, pile of supplies, or lesson plan for every child. You just need more than one way into the learning. For your next shared activity, welcome each childâs contribution without requiring it to match a siblingâs. That might look like a spoken explanation, a quick sketch, or something built with materials already nearby. And then notice what each child adds. This is part of what I love about the Busy Bees Holiday Hub. One shared holiday topic can spark conversation, games, hands-on learning, and different kinds of exploration without Mom having to create a separate starting point for everyone. Everything is learning, including explaining an idea to a sibling, listening to a different perspective, and figuring something out together. Notice one contribution that helped your family see the topic differently. It counts, even if thereâs nothing matching to display afterward. Christy's Corner đ Which contribution might you have overlooked if youâd only been looking for everyone to finish the same thing? |
