From Classroom Teacher to Homeschool Mom...
|
Hey Reader, For a few days, I've given you a little peek into my life as a classroom teacher. Missed them? No worries: Frog Funeral and Ask a Million Questions Day Spoiler alert: I left teaching to become a homeschool mom. I taught in public and private schools. I knew how to write lesson plans, manage a classroom, follow a curriculum, teach multiple subjects, and keep a group of students moving through the school year. But then I brought education home to my own children, and I quickly realized something: Homeschooling was not the same as teaching in a classroom. I had to unlearn a lot. I had to unlearn the idea that learning only “counts” if it looks like school. I had to unlearn the pressure to keep everyone moving at the same pace. I had to unlearn the belief that a full school day meant sitting at the table for hours. I had to unlearn the fear that if something did not click right away, I must be doing something wrong. And maybe most importantly, I had to learn how to trust the children in front of me. Sarah from Ten Minute Momentum invited me to be a guest on her podcast, and in the episode, I share a very honest look at what homeschooling was really like for me, from leaving the classroom, to figuring out what worked in our home, to watching my children learn in ways I never could have fully planned. If you’ve ever wondered what homeschooling looked like for me behind the scenes, the structure, the chaos, the sweet spots, the hard lessons, and the things I had to let go of, I’d love for you to listen. You can listen to the episode here: [Teacher Turned Homeschool Mom] I hope it encourages you to trust yourself a little more, trust your children a little more, and remember that there is more than one meaningful way to homeschool. After you watch, hit reply and let me know what part of my conversation with Sarah resonnated most. Many homeschool moms worry they’re not doing enough, that their kids are “behind” or that learning isn’t sticking. But forcing a boring curriculum or facts only makes everyone frustrated. At Happy Hive Homeschooling, I help moms see the learning that’s already happening by weaving curiosity and joy back into every day.
