You might be overlooking this...

Hey Reader, Yesterday we talked about uncertainty. If you need a refresher, read it {here} I mentioned how kids are often more willing to help once they know what's expected. But today I want to look at something different. Let's say your child helps fold a basket of towels. When they're finished... What did they learn? If your first thought is: "Nothing. They just folded towels." Can I invite you to... Look again. Maybe they noticed that bath towels belong in one stack and hand towels in another. Maybe they realized that folding them neatly means more towels fit on the shelf. Maybe they discovered there's a faster way to match socks. Maybe they practiced finishing something they didn't particularly want to do. Those aren't just chores. Those are life skills. In the workshop, I share several more examples of the hidden learning happening in everyday routines. The same thing happens all over your home. Cooking isn't just cooking. It's reading. Following directions. Fractions. Chemistry. Patience. Problem-solving. Vacuuming isn't just vacuuming. It's noticing details. Taking ownership. Caring for a shared space. Pulling weeds isn't just yard work. It's perseverance. Observation. Learning that some jobs are worth doing, even when nobody notices. When we only measure learning by completed worksheets... it's easy to miss all of that. But when we... Look again... You begin to see something different. Your child isn't just folding towels. They're becoming capable. And honestly? That's one of my favorite things to help homeschool moms recognize. Inside the Busy Bees Holiday Hub, we spend a lot of time talking about curriculum, holidays, and learning activities. But just as important... We spend time helping you notice the learning that's already happening. Because when you begin to see your homeschool differently... Everything starts feeling a little lighter. Nothing has gone wrong. You might just be overlooking some of the richest learning happening in your home. 🐝 Christy's Corner 📝 Think about one chore your child completed this week. Now ask yourself: 👉 What life skill were they really practicing? Not the task. The life skill. If you're not sure...reply and tell me the chore. I'll tell you what learning I see hiding inside it. |
